Mabuhay! My name is Mary Cel Jenny Layson. I am from Lingayen, Pangasinan, Philippines. Philippines has three major islands called Luzon (North), Visayas (Central), and Mindanao (South). My hometown Lingayen is located in the northwestern part of the Luzon and has a large gulf that has numerous islands, some of which are famous in the country. I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and earned a few units for Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling at Saint Louis University in Baguio City, A caregiver certificate at MMS Development Training Center also in Baguio City, and took up required teaching units at Lyceum Northwestern University in Dagupan City for the Licensure Exams for Teachers which I passed in 2015 and made me a certified teacher. I obtained my Master degree in Education major in English in 2020 in the same university where I took up my teaching units.
My English teaching career started in 2007 as a private tutor to South Korean students in Baguio City, Philippines which lasted for a little over a year. I also worked in the BPO industry in the Philippines on a graveyard shift as an inbound and outbound customer service representative to North American and European clients assisting them with their internet issues and loans until I found a day shift job teaching English again to not just South Korean students but other Asian students as well over the phone. In 2010, while working in this English Language Center, I got an offer to teach in China. This was the start of my English teaching career in China. I have been teaching English for about 14 years in total so far, and I am currently teaching at Henan Polytechnic University in Jiaozuo City, which I now consider as one of my hometowns.
Teaching in China has become a big part of my adult life, and I continue to gain many valuable learnings in life, local and foreign friends along the way, and wonderful memories of places and experiences in China.
