What am I doing here

I speak 2 languages fluently and I am learning Chinese Mandarin. I like learning foreign languages but English is my first language (mother tongue). I have a degree in English and qualified as a teacher in 1999. I was born and educated in South Africa but have an Irish passport through ancestry. My grandmother was born in Ireland. Many South Africans speak English as their first language. I started teaching English here in 2011. I usually return to South Africa every year for the holiday. I am Mr Evans.

What are your lessons like?

My lessons are task-based, beginning with a high level of structure which is gradually reduced. I start with something easy like “match the word to a picture” and end the 1st hour  with something like “talk for 3 minutes about a picture” or IELTS style oral exam question. All the activities are centred around a theme. In the 2nd hour we normally do group work. The students have to understand each other in order to complete the task. It includes everyone and requires a real connection. It is interactive communication.
